    JCA Sax Quartet w/Rebecca Shrimpton

June 21, 7 pm @ The Lily Pad (Cambridge)

The Jazz Composers' Alliance (JCA) was founded in 1985 to support, develop and promote the art of music composition in the jazz idiom. To do so, we founded the JCA Orchestra (and the JCA Sax Quartet) and have been putting on concerts for 24 years. We've put out seven CDs (and have just recorded another with blues legend Mike Finnigan), have premiered well over a hundred compositions (who knows, maybe double that) and have had an illustrious series of guest performers who have included Julius Hemphill, Henry Threadgill, Sam Rivers, Oliver Lake, Dave Holland, Steve Lacy, Maria Schneider and many others. The JCA Orchestra features some of Boston's best and most adventurous jazz musicians, including Jim Hobbs, Phil Scarff, Rebecca Shrimpton, David Harris, Hiro Honshuku, and Bill Lowe. Our concerts are creative, exciting, colorful and unique. Our focus ranges from through-composed extended works, to collective improvisation, world music, spoken word and improvisation, and anything else that may come along.
